How To Travel Into The Wrong Future: Dare Babarinsa

By Dare Babarinsa Yesterday marked the 53rd anniversary when General Yakubu Gowon, (then a lanky lieutenant colonel), created the 12 states that replaced the original four regions of the Nigerian federation. Today we have 36 states. Only Lagos State remains in its original form as was created by General Gowon. All other states have undergone tremendous splitting which may not necessarily have been good for Nigeria. However, the state system remains dominant to the idea of Nigerian federalism. Gowon created the state to forestall the Civil War. Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Governor of the Eastern Region, nonetheless declared the independence of the region and named it Biafra. Gowon advisers for the creation of states were the top civil servants, especially the federal permanent secretaries, he inherited from the regime of General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi. Gowon also inherited three military governors; the Governor of the North, Lieutenenat Colonel Hassan Usman Katsi

By their rice we shall know them. Dare Babarinsa

By Dare Babarinsa l GUARDIAN It is not too surprising that the Oyo State government is in tango with the Federal Government over rice.  Last week the Federal Government donated 1800 bags of rice to the Oyo State government as part of palliatives to the people over the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Oyo State government did not solicit for the gift. Similar gifts were also given to the governments of Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Osun states. By Thursday last week, an official of the state government addressed the press, asserting that the government was returning the rice to sender. He said the rice had been contaminated by pests and therefore may be unfit for human consumption.  The following day, the Oyo State government loaded the rice and its officials headed for the headquarters of the Nigerian Custom Service, NCS, in Ibadan. The NCS however shut its door, saying it was not authorized to receive the rice consignment. An official of the NCS explained that off

Expecting The Worst From Your Family And Friends

A  good friend will always be there for you, no matter what your situation is. Likewise, a good family will always be there for you,no matter what your situation is. But good friends and family aren't gonna run away because you lost money, or because you moved further away. Good family and Friends know that life throws many trials, and they will stick through those trials with you to the end. If something bad happens to them, you also feel bad as well, even if you were not directly affected.     Friendship  needs empathy for it to work.  We get so used to our friends that we become insensitive to the things we say and do. Sure, that level of comfort can be a good thing, but at the same time a lot of ugliness can start leaking out.   In other words,be careful of your friends. You need to carefully understand the kinda friend you dealing with. Be close to them according to their behavior and don't be everybody's favorite.   Dealing with sister's /Brothers-in-law Sisters-

what does it mean to be a Boss lady?

Do you know what it takes to be a powerful and confident boss lady?  By: Bukunola Jayeola #1: self confidence. A boss lady is an ambitious and talented woman whose decisions can impact not just her but others. You don’t need to be the prettiest, smartest or wiseist person in the room, but if you act confident, you’ll be perceived as embodying all three. #2: Be so sure in yourself and who you are.  Be sure of yourself that no one can steer you away from that. The more you move and create change, the more people will push back. #3: Be ready for criticism .  Don’t listen to the haters because after all, they’ll just keep hating and tongue lashing you. I want you to know that either good or bad someone out there will say something about you. The best thing is for you to stay on your Lane and keep going on your track. #4: Be determined . Determination keeps you focused and is the key to becoming successful in one's endeavors. #5: Find y
